Top 5 Roald Dahl Characters

Roald Dahl Book Collection
This year heralds Roald Dahl's centenary. I grew up with his books and they will forever hold a special place in my heart. This weekend Cardiff has held a beautiful celebration of all things Dahl and so I thought I would share with you my top five Roald Dahl characters.

Roald Dahl books

1) Matilda (Matilda). This little girl definitely helped spark my interest in reading. Her curiosity and kindness are something I aspire to to this day. She never lost those qualities regardless of the people who put her down and I think her happy ending was well deserved.

2) Mr & Mrs Twit (The Twits). An utterly gruesome twosome, I'm sure you will agree. As horrid as they are there is something fascinating about the pair - I'm not sure if it's the disgusting beard or the glass eye that has me fixated. All of their pranks were hilarious and made me love this terrible two.

3) Willy Wonka (Charlie and the Chocolate Factory). The magical maestro of confectionary! Mr Willy Wonka and his eccentric mind had to make this list. From his love of rescuing and rehoming oompa loompas to his sweet creations and everything in between, growing up I always wished the local corner shop would transform into something like his glorious factory.

4) The BFG (The BFG). A friendly giant who blows dreams into your bedroom and refuses to eat children - what a sweetheart! I'd have happily taken Sophie's place and dined on Snozzcumbers and Frobscottle if it meant time with this (slightly small) giant.

5) Mr Hoppy (Esio Trot). Okay, so this man was a little deceptive but his love for Mrs Silver was driving him over the edge. His commitment to the lie and keeping Mrs Silver happy has to be commended.

What are some of your favourite Roald Dahl characters and stories? I'd love to know!
